The mission of the St. Johns County, Florida Chapter of the
South Atlantic Lifesaving Association is to assist the county lifeguard
service decrease the number of water related injuries and fatalities; to
increase the number of successful water rescues and to accomplish both with
increased safety to county personnel.
The
St. Johns Chapter of the SALA was organized in 1992 to augment water safety
efforts of the open water lifeguards. Today the SALA provides educational
opportunities to future lifeguards, current lifeguards, public safety
agencies, and the general public. The SALA provides formalized instruction
for some 1,500 students annually.
